Oneonta Area for Public Education (oa4pe), a local grassroots organization dedicated to raising awareness about current issues in public education, invites the community to a special educational forum on January 18, at 2:00, at the Oneonta High School auditorium. This event is free and open to the public and accessible to persons with disabilities. This event will feature the voices of public school administrators as they address issues of testing, curriculum, teacher evaluation (APPR), the collection of private student data, and Common Core Learning Standards. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Carol Burris, a nationally recognized public school advocate. Burris, principal of South Side High School in Rockville Centre, New York, is the 2013 Principal of the Year. A regular contributor to The Washington Post, she is also the author of three books on educational topics. Burris was recently featured on the Fox Channel’s program Huckabee. Burris will be joined by two special guests. Frank Sutliff, an educator with twenty-five years experience as a secondary principal, and current President of the School Administrators Association of New York, will address APPR. Tim Farley, an elementary and middle school principal has been published in both Diane Ravitch’s nationally-acclaimed blog and the Times Union. Tim has testified in front of the New York State Senate and Assembly and will address Common Core, high stakes testing, APPR, and data privacy.
