Thanksgiving in the 1800s at the Farmers' Museum
Thanksgiving in the 1800s at the Farmers' Museum

Start Date: Nov. 23, 2012
Time: 10:00 AM

Discover how rural New Yorkers celebrated Thanksgiving in the 1840s. Visitors will see traditional Thanksgiving foods prepared over the open hearth. Look in on the heritage-breed turkeys of all ages: poults, teenagers, hens and toms. See their unusual turkey house and its historic wattle design. Ride the Empire State Carousel, or just enjoy a peaceful walk around the museum's historic village. You can also learn about unusual 19th-century digestive medicines and see the blacksmith create kitchen utensils used in the 1840s. Visit www.FarmersMuseum.org for admission details.
